Purtan Podcast #72: "Nabor-hood Gossip...And More!"

Welcome to February and a frenetic new Purtan Podcast (#72). Today Dick and Jackie are joined by former "Purtan's Person" Jim Ochs. Jim did character voices on Dick's radio show for years including "White Fang" and the King of Music Countdown, "Casey Kasem". Speaking of music, the trio talks about Barbra Streisand's decision to perform on this year's Oscars for the first time in 36 years. (Dick is hoping for a duet with Neil Diamond:  "You Don't Bring Me Flomax Anymore"). Plus there's Jim Nabors not-so-shocking announcement that - Shazam! - he's gay and married to his partner of 38 years! They also touch on Ashley Judd's impending divorce from race car driver Dino Franchitti (apparently she got tired of driving around in circles) and the man who pretended to be Notre Dame football star Manti Te'o's fake deceased girlfriend who has now admitted that not only was she a he, but she/he fell hopelessly and romantically in love with Manti. Throw in some Super Bowl picks, chicken wing sauce, and other tasty stuff and you've got a Podcast Party! So tune in to Podcast #72 now! (You don't even have to bring a dish to pass!)

Purtan Podcast #71: "On Radio...No One Can See You Pout & Other Stories"

In his latest Podcast, Dick & Jackie are joined once again by the alway funny Joe Noune. They cover everything from playing psychiatrist to a fellow NYC radio morning show team cast member who refused to talk on the air, to some bizarre happenings in that very same radio station's lobby that ended a doorman's career (and most likely his marriage!). Plus...who is the greatest recording artist from the 1970's to today? And who should play Lance Armstrong in the inevitable upcoming movie? (Rumor has it "The Eagles" are doing the theme song: "You Can't Hide Those Lyin' Thighs"). So sit back and tune in to Purtan Podcast #71. And don't forget to check out Dick's daily comedy blog - Monday thru Friday @ dickpurtan.com!

Purtan Podcast #70: "Imagine That..."

Welcome to another weekend and another new Podcast - (#70!). Today Dick and Jackie are joined by not-so-frequent-but-always-amusing former “Purtan’s Person” Joe Noune. Joe was the man behind many of the character voices on Dick's radio show, from Ronald Reagan to Japanese Comic “Socki Too-Me”. The three of them “tackle” a lot of important issues including Notre Dame football star Manti Te’o’s mysterious, non-existant girlfriend, who apparently died although she was never actually alive. Plus, Joe offers a list of reasons that prove Manti might be just a bit gullible. (For example, he wants to win a Superbowl with the Detroit Lions). They also explain the hot new trend called “Te’oing” - where people take and post pictures of themselves with their imaginary girlfriends.  And speaking of “dating”, Joe shares his true-story about a Russian women he met on the Web who wanted him to send her $690 - and not a penny more! And then he shares "an incident" about a REAL woman that he met on the Internet, set up an “in person” date with…and let’s just say there isn’t enough beer in the world to have drunk that woman pretty. So grab your imaginary significant other and tune in to Podcast #70!

Purtan Podcast #69: "My Stationary Bike Is Getting Me Nowhere, Fast!"

Welcome to the weekend and Dick's latest Podcast, "My Stationary Bike Is Getting Me Nowhere, Fast!" Jackie's recovered from her cold and (due to popular demand and some arm-twisting) Dick's wife Gail is back for the second week in a row. Join them as they continue the saga of the ancient exercise bike that Dick foolishly threw away and, upon changing his mind, went to the junkyard and brought back. That plus "Missing Cell Phone Syndrome", What NOT to touch in an airplane, and if you thought we'd escaped the "End of The World"…think again. History's most honored scientist thought otherwise. Dick tells you the year he (the scientist, not Dick) predicted it's all going kaflooy! All this and lots more in Podcast #69 now @ dickpurtan.com

Purtan Podcast #74: "Daughter Swapping, Burnt Popcorn, and Everything In Be "Tween"!

Welcome to the weekend and Dick's latest Podcast (#74). This time around, Dick swapped out daughter #2 (Jackie) for daughter #4 (JoAnne) and her kids Lauren (12) and Adam (9). JoAnne's not only a Mom, she's a news Anchor for Channel 7 Action News in Detroit. We'll have more of that story after the break... No wait, that's TV talk! Since this is just a Podcast, she and the kids let us in on some "behind the scenes" info about the off-air JoAnne. For instance...Her complete lack of cooking skills. (She can talk to World Leaders live on TV but she can't microwave a bag of popcorn with out the fire department showing up). The kids talk about... well, whatever is is 9 and 12 year olds talk about, and Dick explains how, when he was a kid, he mixed up the game "Post Office" with "Spin the Bottle". Let just say he didn't "deliver" on Saturdays - or any other day for that matter. So heat up a snack (Just down ask JoAnne for help) and click on Podcast #74!

Podcast #68: "My Better Half!"

They say behind every great man is a great woman...Well in Dick's latest Podcast, you get to meet the woman whose been behind him all these years! Yes, Dick's microphone-shy wife Gail agreed to sit-in for their "under the weather" daughter Jackie as co-host for the first time ever! They not only reveal how, after a houseful of kids and grandkids on Christmas Eve, they spent Christmas Day (Nothing says "Ho Ho Ho" like dinner at a place with plastic menus), they also share their different opinions on movies they saw over the holidays. (According to Dick, they don't call it 'Les Miserable" for nothin'!). They also weigh in on everything from Hugh Hefner's nuptials to Kim Kardashian's pregnancy. And speaking of babies...you'll hear the latest on North Korean dictator Kim Jung Un's expectant wife (Apparent he's got at least one missile that actually works!) So grab your better half - and take a few minutes to listen to Dick and his - in Podcast #68!

Purtan Podcast #66: "Shrek The Halls...And Howe!"

Welcome to another weekend...and if you believe the Mayans, it could be one of our last! So with the "End of the World" rapidly approaching on Dec. 21st, Dick and Jackie, along with their special guest and former "Purtan's Person" Tom DeLisle, address some really deep and meaningful topics in Dick's latest Podcast (#66).

And what could be more "deep and meaningful" than Convicted-Felon-Former-Detroit-City-Councilwoman Monica Conyers' impending release from the slammer and move into a Half-Way House?! (She made headlines by repeatedly calling the council Prez "Shrek") Dick also tells you about a new Special Edition magazine dedicated entirely to the legendary Detroit Red Wing, Gordie Howe - and Tom shares a story about a "cup" (and we're not talking Stanley here) that he wore just in time to save his, um, family jewels at a hockey game.  Speaking of "Royal Jewels" Dick dishes out the latest on Kate Middleton's morning sickness, and explains why England's Boy George told an arena full of Detroit concert goers that "Dick Purtan can kiss my ass! So stop worrying about the Apocalypse for a few minutes, sit back and spend some time catching up with what's going on. It'll come in handy just in case the Mayans were wrong!

Purtan Podcast #65: "It's Beginning To Sound A Lot Like Christmas!"

So here we are smack dab in the middle of that magical time between Thanksgiving and Christmas! What better time to take a few minutes to spend with a couple of fruitcakes (Dick and Jackie) and their special guest, Dale Johnson. Before Dale became the producer-extradordianare of Dick's 16-Hour Radiothon for the Salvation Army Bed & Bread Club, he spent a few years as a “Mall Santa”. Today he shares a few of his favorite stories that include everything from a wet knee to the time his Santa-pants ended up around his ankles. Plus…Dick's got important information if you’re flying this holiday season (on a plane, not a sleigh). Turns out the TSA agents will be scanning a lot more than just you… (Hint: It gives a whole new meaning to “Pie in the Sky”). So take a break from swearing at that strand of lights that just went out on your tree and listen into some Holiday cheer (and a few jeers!) in Podcast #65.

Purtan Podcast #64: "Generals" & "Privates" Gone Wild!

In their latest "Pod-i-sode" (is that a word?) Dick and Jackie touch on a variety of topics in the news. Speaking of "touching", grab onto your Stars and Bars as they take a verbal trip through the twists and turns of the ever-widening Petraeus Sex Scandal. And with the Military "front and center" this week, Dick recounts some personal stories of the eight years he spent on Active Duty and in the Army Reserves. There's also the demise of the Twinkie, hair-raising news about Donald Trump, and the tragic (?) break-up of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. Plus...get ready to hit your "Like" button...They'll tell you about Pope Benedict's plans to launch a personal Facebook page. (Dick's worried the Pontiff's profile pic will cut off the top of his hat.) So put down your copy of General Petraeus's biography "All In" ...and "Tune In" to Podcast #64!

Purtan Podcast #63: "From Frankenstorm to Frankenstein...Frankly I'm Glad It's Almost Election Time!"

What a week! Hurricane Sandy certainly made for a scarier Halloween than usual! And with the Presidential election just days away, the winds (at least the political hot air) continues to blow. In today's installment... Dick, Jackie and his wife/her mother Gail sit down for a look at both big and little things of interest. From the the 108-year-old-woman who cast her very first Presidential ballot (Dick thinks she voted early "just in case") to Lindsay Lohan's tweets that people were being way "too negative" about the big storm, they bounce from topic to topic faster than Chris Christie on his way to a donut shop. Plus, Dick and Gail tell the story of a past-hurricane that they not only lived thru - but actually DROVE thru, and Dick talks about something he did with his alarm clock that had him more confused that Chaz Bono in a unisex bathroom. It's all here in Podcast #63!

Podcast #67: "A Great Way To Begin The End"

Join Dick, Jackie and former "Purtan's Person" and frequent guest Tom DeLisle for what, if the Mayans are right, may be their very last Podcast! While the world ending may not be music to your ears...Dick shares a story that will be: How he and his wife Gail put up every cent they had to bring the Beatles to Cincinnati on their first US tour in 1964. And he tells you which Beatle actually stopped a concert to get the girls in the audience to stop throwing a certain something at the band. (Nope...it wasn't their panties!) Speaking of music, they also discuss why feminist writer Camille Paglia believes Taylor Swift, Katie Perry and Rhianna are "ruining" things for women by sending us "back to the 1950's". Plus, Dick offers up a great last-minute clothing gift idea for that special someone that offers "The Crouch Without The Ouch". So quit staring up a the sky waiting for the Apocalypse and tune in to Podcast #67 Now!

Purtan Podcast #62: "Everything But Baseball...So Relax!"

In an effort to keep their mind off the World Series (when today's Podcast was recorded, the Detroit Tigers were down two games to zip against the Giants), Dick and Jackie talk about just about everything else. From old movies (Dick recently sat down and actually watched an Elvis flick ALL THE WAY THRU!) to a rather unusual habit he has of Googling "certain things" while he's watching TV. (You'll have to listen to find out!) And speaking of technology, Jackie reveals the repercussions of accidentally texting her Mom - when she thought she was texting her five sisters. (Can you say "Fifty Shades of Humiliation"?) Finally, Dick unwittingly reveals something that he did that Jackie warns is a clear "danger signal" that he's "really retired". So put on your mental cleats and get ready for a run around the bases of Podcast #62!

Purtan Podcast #61: Fifty Shades of Grade School?

As Dick and his daughter - fellow Podcaster Jackie - recorded this latest installment, the Detroit Tigers were in the middle of playing what turned out to be their final game against the Yankees - sending the Tigers to the World Series! Since they didn't know the outcome at the time, they turned to equally pressing issues such as Lindsay Lohan's endorsement of Mitt Romney and Lance Armstrong's new gig as one of the Seven Dwarves (and their not talking "Happy"!) Dick also welcomes some special guests to his dining room table - 3 of his 6 nephews, uh, grandsons - one 9 and the other two 11. The boys share their feelings on everything from "Honey Boo Boo" and Justin Bieber, to what it's like to "date" in elementary school. So put yourself in a "Time Out" and take a few minutes to listen in to Podcast #61.

Purtan Podcast #59: "How I Accepted A TV Emmy That Moments Later I Found Out I Hadn't Won"

Ever dreamed of winning an Oscar and or an Emmy and running up on stage to give your big acceptance speech? It actually happened to Dick (an Emmy, not an Oscar) Unfortunately he found out moments later that...well...it didn't exactly belong to him. Oops. (Too bad Kayne West hadn't been there to grab the mic and give credit to Beyonce!) In today's Podcast, Dick recounts that rather embarrassing story - along with the time he and a good friend celebrated a little too much at a University of Michigan Football Game and ended up trapped in the bathroom of his daughter Jackie's dorm. (Don't ask...He'll tell!) And somehow, Dick and his fellow Podcasters also manages to address some of today's most pressing issues, including how to get sympathy from your wife or girlfriend when you've been "over served", "Where in the World Is Jimmy Hoffa?" and who had/has the better body, Psycho star Janet Leigh or her daughter Jamie Lee Curtis? So sit back and prepare to be "Showered" with some fascinating stories!

Purtan Podcast #60: From the Kennedys to The Kardashians - Celebrities in the News…and the Nude!

Today, Dick and daughter Jackie sit down with frequent and "fascinating" (his word, not theirs) guest Tom DeLisle for a rapid fire look at celebs both living and those who have gone to that great People Magazine in the sky. From Madonna's pledge to strip naked if Obama is re-elected to Charlize Theron's new obese, gay boyfriend…it's all here. Tom, a friend of Robert and Ethel Kennedy's daughter Courtney,  shares some embarrassing stories about his time with her (hint: alcohol, road trips and song lyrics don't always make for the best mix). And, Dick being Dick, he somehow manages to work in some "new" info about World War II and wraps things up with an in-depth look at the sex life of gorillas and chimpanzee's butts. So sit your butt down and check out Podcast #60!

Purtan Podcast #58: "From Hair To Eternity"

Today Dick and daughter Jackie prove they're on the "cutting edge" as they welcome Jackie's hair stylist, Gjoni, to the Podcast. If you've ever wondered what women (and yes, men) are willing to confess to their stylist - it's a must shear... uh... hear!  As Gjoni says, he's "like a Priest with a Blow Dryer". He also offers inside info on what's "in" for your hair this season and offers his opinion on the topless pix of Kate Middleton (He doesn't see anything wrong with it even though she's the future QUEEN OF ENGLAND!). From why a majority of CEO's part their hair on the right, to a sure-fire & simple way women can use their locks to look incredibly sexy, it's all hair... uh here!

Purtan Podcast #57: Anchor Away!

In his latest Podcast, Dick welcomes his #4 (of 6) daughter and TV news anchor JoAnne back to the conversation. JoAnne offers up some exciting "behind the scenes" secrets about how the TV news biz works - and some tricks anchors use to keep from sounding, well, uh, stupid. They also reveal what Katie Couric told JoAnne she found "amazing" about her when the two recently worked together - plus JoAnne reveals the one name Katie DOES NOT want to be called! JoAnne's 11 and 9 year old kids also stop by with their views on how their TV mom looks without make-up. (Ouch!) So powder your nose and take a shine to Purtan Podcast #57!

Purtan Podcast #56: "All In The Family!"

Today, Dick and co-Podcaster Jackie, (daughter #2), welcome JoAnne Purtan (daughter #4) to the table. JoAnne - a TV News Anchor in Detroit - is the last of the 6 Purtan girls to make her Podcast debut. They cover a wide range of important topics ranging from Bill Clinton's "talents" (politically and otherwise) to how it feels to be told, "You look so much prettier on TV than you do in person!" (And you wonder why Dick stuck with radio!) They also touch (figuratively, not literally) on Kathy Lee's boobs and get up-to-the-minute news on life in elementary school from Jackie and JoAnne's sons Charlie and Adam. So take a "recess" from whatever you're doing and tune-in to Podcast #56!

Purtan Podcast #55: Presidents, Princes and Kings! Oh My!

Today Dick and Jackie welcome back former "Purtan's Person" Joe Noune to the Podcast. Joe (the owner of many voices and master of a few!) brings President Ronald Reagan back to life just in time for the political conventions. They also talk about Prince Harry's Royal pickle and the new romance blossoming between Superman & Wonder Woman. But wait! There's more! Elvis's (previously enjoyed) underpants are going up on the the auction block and Dick will tell you why they should be marked "Return To Sender"! So swivel your hips into a comfortable position and click on Podcast #55!

Purtan Podcast #54: "Radio: It's Going Through "The Change" With Everything But The Hot Flashes"

Today Dick is joined by Art Vuolo... who's known in the broadcast business as "Radio's Best Friend". They talk about the heyday of radio - when people carried transistor radios with them everywhere and have now been replaced with iEverythings. They also take a look back -- comparing how vastly different radio is today from the way it was. So many changes... some good, but mostly bad. Dick also tells two great stories: One about a waitress who's one pancake short of a stack when it comes to History, plus a hilarious (and true) recounting of the time 90-something  legendary Detroit Weatherman, Sonny Eliot actually heckled a stand-up comic. Wait until you hear what the comic had to say! So stand-up - or sit down - and click on Podcast #54.
